Rolex and achievements
The link between Rolex and sports and human achievement goes back to the beginning of the brand. The founder of the brand, Hans Wilsdorf, was deeply influenced by the rapidly changing social environment in the early 20th century and founded his own watchmaking company. In an era when watches are still considered slim accessories, he is determined to make sturdy, precise and reliable watches to adapt to people’s increasingly active lifestyle.
After successfully pioneering the precision of watches, the brand invented the world’s first waterproof watch in 1926, the Rolex Oyster, relying on Rolex’s patented patented system, with screw-in outer ring and case back. Screw the winding crown firmly onto the case.
A year later, to prove to the world the waterproof performance of the watch, Hans Wilsdorf invited young British swimmer Mercedes Gleitze to cross the English Channel wearing an oyster watch. After swimming for more than ten hours to reach the end, the watch she wore still went on as usual. As a result, Gillis became the first spokesperson for Rolex and a witness to the excellence of Rolex watches.
Rolex continues to confirm the performance of the Oyster with a wide world. Whether on land or in the air, in the depths of the ocean or on the peaks of a mountain, Rolex watches have successfully withstood the most severe tests, showing their accuracy and reliability. These experiments help develop Rolex professional watches, such as the Oyster Perpetual Explorer and Explorer II, Cosmograph Daytona, and Submariner , Yacht-Master and so on. Rolex strives for excellence, this purpose also extends to the sports world, Rolex supports sports to create outstanding achievements, thus becoming a leading and reliable partner in sports.
